Preparing for fantastic event photographs

Find the best spots for key moments

Whilst Essex offers a range of stunning venues in which to hold your event, they do vary in terms of lighting and spacing. If you have guest speakers or are planning to make a speech yourself, chat to the venue and your photographer about where the best spots are in terms of lighting and visibility.

Decide on the coverage you want

There is never just one way to photograph an event. Some people prefer a documentary approach where the photographer simply captures images of people interacting naturally, whilst others want some posed and staged shots throughout the event. Knowing what you prefer beforehand and sharing this with you photographer will really help them to produce photographs that you will love.

Also think about the tone of the event, would shots of guests laughing and having fun be appropriate? It might be perfect for a birthday party but not so much for a serious conference.

Share a shot list

You do not have to itemise every single photograph you want, but if there are certain guests and moments that you want a record of, let your photographer know.

Will there be a surprise speech? An unveiling of a piece of artwork?

Do you need shots of the food and the entertainment? Who are the VIP guests and how will your photographer be able to identify them?

When are the key moments happening? A simple shot list and timeline of key events is super helpful.
